I am currently working on becoming an English teacher, preferably at the middle school or high school level. I read at a pace that might be aptly described as "voracious". This is due in part to my desire to teach and partly because I just like books. I am generally fond of thinking about anything that should happen to wander into my mind. I have a compulsion to read words in front of me whether it be on a shirt, sign, coffee cup, or car. For the most part I do not have many grammar pet peeves with the exception of using words like "ironic" and "random" when you really mean words like "apropos" and "miscellaneous".
I have favorite words. The turnover is fairly quick but topping the list right now are: Swig, Haruspicy (the reading of entrails to divine the future), ponder, and riboflavin.

Don't sweat the small stuff. This is a motto I have tried to live by. I first encountered this simple yet profound saying in a novel I read when younger. I have lived in the Madison area my whole life, except for my college years. I love many different things and am always willing to try something new...some kind of adventure. I enjoy downhill skiing..especially out West. I have skiied all over in Colorado and a few places in Utah. I love gambling at the casinos, and of course this has lead me to Las Vegas four times...I wish I could go more and that I won more than I lost. I love travelling and have been all over the United States. When I travel I usually prefer to drive..I just enjoy the road trip and being in my car and taking it all in and clearing my head. I can't tell you my favorite place in the U.S. because I have so many..I love the Mountains but the Ocean is just as wonderful. I have been to Canada and to Mexico twice..Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. Cancun was all about partying and drinking and I did a bit of that in Puerto Vallarta but I took more of it in and swam with dolphins and
sea lions. I also went ziplining and have to admit it was the scariest moment of my life..for several minutes I thought I was going to live in a tree for the rest of my life I was so scared to go on and let go of the tree. UPDATE: I just quit smoking! (So I'm looking for a non-smoker) I'm pretty go-with-the-flow, I believe in trying (almost) anything once. I think you can have a great time in a lousy situation, or a bad time in a decent situation, it all depends on who you're with. Ideally, I'd like to be in a long-term relationship, but anything between friends and long-term is fine too. It all depends on what the chemistry is.

I don't think most people have the appreciation for those bikes that I do...but whatever. I don't do it for the image.

I love the goth look... I think it's hot as hell. I really love the fetish crowd. Maybe I'm just more into the whips and chains, with kinky leather/vinyl outfits and wild hairdo. If I had to describe myself using only four adjectives I would choose: philosophical, geeky, sarcastic, and loving.

I would choose philosophical because I am deeply interested in theoretical matters such as philosophy. While philosophy is my hobby, and not a profession I think it greatly affects how I view the world. I am a big fan of Wittgenstein, Nietzsche, Joseph Schumpeter, and Friedrich Hayek. I would like my potential dates to have interests and opinions on various different academic subjects such as philosophy, economics, politics, etc.

I call myself a geek because it is an undeniable fact that I am one. I've been living in Southern WI for about 10 years. I grew up in California, but came out to WI to attend Beloit College. I graduate around the dot com crash, so rather than moving back to Silicon Valley and taking years to find a job, I took a job I was offered at the place I had been interning my senior year of college. Before I write all about myself in some clever way to sell myself to you; I would like to address my handle, username not my dangle. Hobbes, from Calvin and Hobbes, is a stuffed tiger that is an imaginary best friend to a boy that has a wild imagination. First of all I am not looking for a stuffed toy, although a tiger in bed would be a nice bonus. I am definitely not looking for someone that is imaginary or fake either, but someone that gets me on the level that Hobbes gets Calvin and someone that shares in a lot of interests and adventures. I may be a little bit of a boy at heart since I still play a lot of video games and my sense of humor can sometimes be childish and my imagination is a little tamer than Calvin.

More things some people find annoying: I think Kurt's writing was pretentious and unimpressive, I think Tarantino is an overrated hack, the LOTR movies were utter shit (using the British pronunciation), I could possibly care less about Harry Potter, but it'd be hard, and I mock people relentlessly. In fact, I've said a few thousand times to a few hundred different people "If I don't take the time to insult you, it just means I don't care."

Oh, and I think addiction is a load of shit, I swear more than a sailor with Turret's, and the little guy who censors what you say? Mine committed suicide ten years ago. And I have a habit of saying something unintentionally offensive to someone, pausing for a split second, and then saying "I stand by it." This is followed by uncontrollable giggling.

Recently I've started adding "for some reason" to the end of lots of sentences, since it cracks one of my roommates up. I have three roommates until mid-August, when two of them are leaving. I'm fairly sure "for some reason" isn't the cause of the departure, though.

Because it always comes up and some people find it odd, <<umi-ryu>> is one of my roommates, and an ex-girlfriend. We're just friends now, though- it turns out we're good at that, but bad at the relationship thing. If you're the type to get jealous easily, though, you might want to wander away.

And yeah, I'm a sadist. Consensual pain is frickin' hot, I can't deny it or ignore it, and I don't want to. I'm not looking for mindless slaves (not exclusively, at least :) ), but biting, scratching, slapping, etcetera are regular parts of my sex life. There's nothing I care less about than circumstances of birth... if you have a large amount of pride in your "cultural heritage" then maybe we won't get along that well. I like to try new things and I am always up for a challenge. I love my residents at my job like they are my family...I would die for them. My family is number one and nothing comes before them. Older generations could go on a date with someone to a movie, out to dinner, or whatever they wished and if the date did not go so hot they could go there separate ways. Now days if you go on a date with someone you already know the person and you are moderately conformable with them. Why not take the chance and roll with it.

I have a tendency to put myself first. For the most part I'm pretty self-centered, but I can and do make GREAT sacrifices for the ones I love. Not to make myself sound like some kind of rare mystical unicorn or whatever, but my love is hard to get. If you melt my heart you will be a goddess in my eyes, trust me.

I do not tolerate psychic vampires, i.e., people who are weak-willed individuals who feed on the emotional energy of others to make themselves feel better. They typically surround themselves with superficial "friends" and constantly go on and on about all their "problems" that they are seemingly unable to get over on their own. That doesn't mean I won't help you with your problems, but I will not allow you to hang onto me like some kind of life-preserver for any extended period of time. I suggest you don't even try to do that because I will drop you on your ass and leave.

I no longer live in Western MA; I relocated to Madison, WI, in the summer of 2009.

However, I do still love dancing (contact improvisation and other improvisational dance, as well as contra dance), reading, writing in my journal (though I don't do it nearly often enough), and cooking vegan food.

I miss living in organized cooperative houses, and living with cats. When I left Boston, I thought I'd miss the city more than I did living in the woods. Instead, I found myself wanting a smaller city. Madison is not small, but smaller than Boston.

Two years ago, I go into a serious relationship. I had said I wasn't interested in meeting or dating anyone for a while, but I guess sometimes that's not the kind of thing I can decide in advance.

I'm queer, and occasionally identify as gender-fucked or gender non-identified, but these days I mostly feel female. I'm also kinky, and learning more about switching. And, I'm vegan, and have a hard time spending a lot of time around people who aren't vegetarian or vegan.

Umm yeah...I live in Wisconsin and like drinking, drugs, and sex...That is so not serious. I have no clue as to how to fill in this box. I guess I'm a geek, I like playing various games from pen paper role playing to tabletop skirmish games and collectible card games, and from old dos games to console games. I like fishing, hikeing, and looking at the stars. I like knitting, cross-stitch, and other craft type stuff. I also enjoy playing around with computers, wether it's tossing their guts about, or using them. As of late i tend to see the inside of my cave or work more than i actually see other living breathing people face to face...assuming they still exist and aren't either mindless drones or figments of my imagination.

I'm a recovering computer geek who only recently realized that music is my real passion in life. I've played percussion almost as long as I can remember (although not very seriously until somewhat recently).

Up until about five or six years ago, I only really played "normal" drums, but then my interest in them started to wane and I decided to pick up my first ever set of tablas. Tablas are a traditional accompanying drum in Indian classical music. They are by far the most complicated (and enjoyable) drums that I've ever played. I've played them for around four years now, and I like to tell people that I know how to play them well enough to know that I barely know how to play them at all. I also recently acquired a sitar (another classical Indian instrument, popularized in the west in the 60's by Ravi Shankar) that I've completely fallen in love with (even though its my first string instrument), and I hope one day to travel to India and study music there.

Personality-wise, I'm very low maintenance and quite laid back. I rarely ever get stressed out because I think one of the most important things in life is to be able to be content with things as they are. I tend to be something of a home-body (mainly because I don't dig on the bar scene at all... well, that, and I'm kind of poor).

I like a wide variety of music, with my main interest being in Indian classical music (which I would love to be able to perform some day). But I also like western classical music (ala Mozart and Beethoven), classic rock (I can never get enough Hendrix, Beatles, Doors, Zeppelin, etc...), funk, jazz, blues, wierd experimental electronic music, and much more... Some of the types of music that I don't really dig on are country, and rap (and for that matter, a vast majority of 'popular' music these days, which tends to be devoid of all musicianship and feeling).

I love movies as well, with some of my favorite films being old black and white samurai films directed by Akira Kurosawa (some examples are, 7 Samurai, Sanjuro, Yojimbo, Red Beard, Ikiru, Sugata Sanshiro, etc...)

I read quite a bit, mostly philosophy or science books, but every once in a while an oddball work of fiction gets thrown in that I enjoy. I'm completely enamoured with the works of JRR Tolkien, and read them quite regularily.

I like simple things like cooking a nice meal and then huddling up underneath a mound of blankets and watching a couple of great movies, I'm completely addicted to any and all music, from weird brazilian samba-jazz to hip-hop, to straight rock 'n roll, to fantastic oldies. I play my guitar incessantly, and am looking forward to the day when I build up enough courage to get back on a stage after a 6 year gap. I love getting up and enjoying each day, I try my best to make the most of every moment...be it enjoying a nice sunny day on my bike, or relaxing on the porch with a good book. I have two adorable cats, Chloe and Yahara, who mean the world to me, and if you're not down with cats, we probably won't get along. I'm moving in August to a new apartment and am thinking about adding a dog to the family. Outside of that, I'm a huge fan of laughing as much as possible (Billy Connolly stand-up is my favorite!), and I'm pretty much willing to try anything once.

I've been told that I can be brutally honest sometimes, but, never done to be mean - just tend to call it like I see it. I usually am drawn to creative people (musicians, actors, other visual artists). I also can be non-monogamous or polyamorous, depending on the person I'm with/what their comfort level is. My philosophy on relationships and dating tends to follow the slogan from the old Skittles candy commercial, 'Taste the Rainbow'. I also enjoy all different kinds of relationships. No, I'm not a ho who will sleep with just about anyone. I'm actually kinda picky. I am very open and honest with partners about seeing other people, and I would expect the same honesty from you.
